BASED IN İSTANBUL
I’m Sıla Şehrazat Yücel, a multidisciplinary visual artist and AI creative based in Istanbul. My background spans landscape architecture, interior architecture, 3D visualization and art direction, all of which continue to shape the way I think about space, atmosphere, composition and narrative.
Before focusing primarily on my visual art practice, I worked in architectural visualization and as an art director on independent film and theater projects. Over time, my practice expanded into photography, Ottoman miniature painting, herbarium work, jewelry and object design, bringing together digital and tactile ways of making.
Today, I work primarily with generative AI-assisted image-making and digital post-production, often through ongoing world-building projects, surreal photographic constructions and short moving-image works. I approach AI as part of a broader creative process that includes experimentation, iteration, selection, reconstruction and visual refinement.
ARTISTIC APPROACH
My practice is driven by curiosity about how images shape perception and how imagination can subtly alter our sense of reality. I am drawn to moments when the familiar becomes slightly strange, when scale shifts, logic loosens and an image begins to suggest a world beyond itself. Many of my works develop through fragments rather than fixed narratives: landscapes, characters, encounters and visual clues that gradually form larger fictional worlds.
World-building has become an important part of my practice. I am interested in creating places that feel observed rather than invented, where surreal or impossible elements coexist naturally with everyday life. This often results in images that move between playfulness and unease, familiarity and ambiguity.
Across both my digital and physical work, I return to ideas of transformation, ornament, nature, memory and the possibility of re-enchanting the everyday. Even when the work becomes strange or slightly uncanny, there is usually a sense of curiosity and play beneath it.
Alongside my visual art practice, I continue to design and handcraft jewelry and decorative objects. Moving between digital image-making and working with materials by hand keeps these different parts of my practice in conversation with one another.
